Dont underestimate your shutter speed

A few weeks ago I did a "Hollywood" shoot.  My original idea was to shoot my friend in black and white with just a spotlight on her face. Under such low light conditions I had to use a slow shutter speed. The photos came out great on the screen on the camera or so I thought. It wasn't until the next class when I uploaded the photos on to the computer that I realized that there was not one shot that was sharp. I knew exactly what the problem was. I assumed that although the shutter speed was slow it wasn't slow enough to use a tripod.

After an extremely disappointing class I then did a re shoot with a different idea and the use of a tripod and got much clearer photos.

  1. I haven't really used a tripod for any photographic reasons really just mainly for recording video. Does it really make a grand amount of difference whether I use a tripod for photography or not?

  2. well personally I've noticed that with the slower shutter speeds my photos come out a lot sharper with the use of a tripod. especially with the motion project i am doing for my digital one class this week.
