Moma
So this weekend i went to the moma. I took a lot of notes for the paper but I'm just hoping that it is going to be enough. I really enjoyed the art work. I think my favorite photograph was the was with the moon phases. Hopefully i can incorporate that into my paper. overall i really enjoyed the trip.
I am nervous to start my photo one assignment. I have ideas but I'm really not sure when i have time to get them done. when i start shooting i will be posting it here as the project progresses.

Jim Lennon's photography studio
I really enjoyed the trip to the studio. it gave me a chance to see the business aspect of the career, not just the photography part. I was surprised to see how many technical factors there are just to produce a professional photograph. As interesting as this profession is, it made me realize that this isn't the route I would like to take with my career right now. This first semester at college has been a wonderful experience and as much as I love photography I think it needs to stay as a side project for me. It was very nice of Jim to take the time out of his day to give students a tour of his studio. I thought it was a great trip and I really learned a lot about how much dedication it takes to become a photographer.

portraits
This week in photo one we did portraiture. I found this assignment very easy, but that might have been because I had an amazing model who didn't mind taking direction. What I did notice was that when taking photos outside its really important to find good lighting. When I moved my model facing a different direction towards the light. the mood of the photo changed. Overall I really enjoyed the shoot

horror film
Last week in photo one we had to do a front and back cover of a horror dvd or book. I used the 90's nick show are you afraid of the dark as my inspiration. i was very pleased with the prints. I think that this was probably one of my favorite shoots because it went so smoothly. I enjoy shooting at night a lot more then i thought i would.

busy week
This week for my photo one class we had to have our travel magazine shoot done. It was probably one of my favorite shoots so far only because i love being down by the water. I shot all my images down at Lake Ronkonkoma. I shot all of the images vertically, but i did shoot some horizontally just to see what it would look like. One of the main things i tried to remember when shooting was to never shoot at eye level. I tried to get down low for most of my images. I feel like it makes it more interesting. I also bracketed my exposure just to see what the same photo would look like under different circumstances. I realized that when its late day I really loved all the under exposed images because it makes the shadows really bold. The ones I post here are actually not the ones I used for class, but the ones I decided to keep and edit at home just because I thought they were really beautiful
I also filled out the schedule time sheet for seminar this week. If anything the time sheet just showed me i am very busy. I have a lot of things going on between 6 classes, work, and school work. I have no choice but to get my work done. I manage to fit everything and use my free time wisely.

so....
Since i haven't had time to do this weeks project for my digital 1 class yet I've decided to post some images I took this weekend as a favor for my sister. After I did the shoot I was actually really disappointed I'm not using them for any class assignment, so I've decided to share them on here instead.

Line, shape, texture
so this is one of the photographs I recently printed for my digital one class. The objective of the assignment was to produce an image with an emphasis on line, shape, and texture. I was originally going to do a shoot involving a piano. During the shoot I was inspired for my next motion project and decided to hold off on the piano idea. Instead I used up close shots of a straw hat. I was most pleased during the editing because when I moved the levels over in photo shop the colors really popped and highlighted the middle of the image. I hope you guys enjoy it =)

Dont underestimate your shutter speed
A few weeks ago I did a "Hollywood" shoot. My original idea was to shoot my friend in black and white with just a spotlight on her face. Under such low light conditions I had to use a slow shutter speed. The photos came out great on the screen on the camera or so I thought. It wasn't until the next class when I uploaded the photos on to the computer that I realized that there was not one shot that was sharp. I knew exactly what the problem was. I assumed that although the shutter speed was slow it wasn't slow enough to use a tripod.
After an extremely disappointing class I then did a re shoot with a different idea and the use of a tripod and got much clearer photos.
